Admissions ~11,023 characters · 23 min read Updated

Module: 02 Admissions · Sub-file: Undergraduate Programme Catalogue / JS Codes Last updated: 15 June 2026 This table lists the JUPAS (JS) codes for all UGC-funded undergraduate programmes at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (Shatin campus), grouped by the University's eight faculties, together with each programme's non-JUPAS minimum reference score ranges (IB / GCE A-Level). The programme list is taken from the official JUPAS CUHK programme page (2026 entry, 88 programmes in total); reference scores are from CUHK's Reference Scores (October 2025 edition). Programme numbers and titles are tweaked slightly from year to year; the latest official announcements prevail. Some cross-faculty joint programmes appear under two faculties and are flagged as such.

I. How JS codes are organised

All CUHK JUPAS programmes begin with "JS4" followed by three digits, roughly segmented by faculty:

Range Faculty
JS40xx Arts
JS41xx – end of Arts Arts (continued)
JS42xx Business Administration
JS43xx Health & PE / Education
JS44xx Engineering
JS45xx Medicine & Health Sciences
JS46xx – JS47xx Science
JS48xx Social Science
JS49xx Law

The "non-JUPAS minimum reference range" column is drawn from the official Reference Scores (compiled from the 2023–2025 admission statistics) and represents a minimum reference, not a guarantee of admission; blank entries mean the PDF did not list a range separately or the programme is jointly offered. Actual admits to "sacred subjects" (神科) — the most competitive programmes — typically score well above the bottom of the range.

Per the JUPAS JS4501 programme page, the MBChB is a 6-year programme with about 300 places for 2026 entry (subject to official confirmation); interviews are "selective", and HKDSE results are not the sole factor in admission. Official JUPAS score statistics for MBChB and GPS are set out in the Faculty of Medicine section of undergraduate-admissions.md (GPS median 40.5 / MBChB 37.0, out of a maximum of 42 across six subjects).

New finding: according to CUHK's Reference Scores, Economics also offers a dual-degree programme with Tsinghua University (Economics — Dual Degree Programme with Tsinghua University), with a non-JUPAS IB reference range of 38–40. This is a cross-border dual-degree arrangement with one of mainland China's top universities, on a separate track from the standard JS4824.

IX. Faculty of Law

The Law Faculty's main undergraduate line is the LLB (JS4903); JS4264 is a joint bachelor's-plus-JD programme run with the Business Faculty, and appears in both faculty lists.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Is there a CUHK postgraduate programme catalogue?

A: This page covers CUHK's undergraduate (UGC-funded bachelor's) JUPAS programmes, listing the JS codes for all 88 programmes. It does not cover master's or research postgraduate programmes. Tuition and financing arrangements for CUHK's self-financed taught postgraduate programmes are covered separately in tuition and self-financing programmes; for the specifics of individual programmes, please consult the Graduate School or the relevant faculty's website — this data is not collected here.

Q: How many undergraduate programmes does CUHK offer, and what are the entry requirements?

A: According to the official JUPAS programme page (2026 entry), CUHK offers 88 UGC-funded undergraduate programmes, grouped by JS code segment across eight faculties (Arts, Business Administration, Health & PE/Education, Engineering, Medicine, Science, Social Science, Law). The common JUPAS minimum threshold for all programmes is "332A" (see the admissions-pathways article for details); non-JUPAS applicants (IB/A-Level) have separate "minimum reference score ranges" — for instance, the Faculty of Medicine's MBChB lists a minimum reference range of 42–43, Global Business Studies 41–42, and programmes in the Arts Faculty generally 31–33.

Q: How are CUHK's JS codes organised?

A: JS codes uniformly begin with "JS4" followed by three digits, roughly segmented by faculty: JS40xx–41xx for Arts, JS42xx for Business Administration, JS43xx for Health & PE/Education, JS44xx for Engineering, JS45xx for Medicine, JS46xx–47xx for Science, JS48xx for Social Science, and JS49xx for Law. Some cross-faculty joint programmes (such as JS4264, the BBA & JD double degree) appear in both faculty lists.

Q: Where do I look up CUHK undergraduate admission requirements?

A: This page provides only the JS codes and non-JUPAS minimum reference score ranges. For the full range of admission pathways (JUPAS / non-JUPAS / mainland China gaokao / international students), score calculations, and college assignment, see CUHK admission requirements in the same directory.

Data reliability and gaps

  • Programme list and JS codes: all 88 programmes and their codes are taken from the official JUPAS CUHK programme page (2026 entry) — official first-party data.
  • Non-JUPAS reference ranges: taken from CUHK's official Reference Scores (October 2025 edition), checked programme by programme; blanks indicate the PDF did not list a range separately.
  • JUPAS median / quartile scores are not in this catalogue (they float year by year); see undergraduate-admissions.md.
  • Timeliness: programme numbers and titles are adjusted slightly year to year (new programmes launched, existing ones merged); this table reflects the 2026 entry cohort and defers to the latest official announcements.
